Transient Headache and Neurological Deficits with Cerebrospinal Fluid Lymphocytosis Associated with IgM Antibodies to the Epstein-Barr Virus Viral Capsid Antigen
Some authors have suggested that the syndrome of transient headache and neurological deficits with cerebrospinal fluid lymphocytosis (HaNDL) results from an immunological response directed against a viral agent. Here we report a case of HaNDL in an immunocompetent 19-year-old male that could support this hypothesis.
متن کاملSyndrome of Headache Accompanied with Transient Neurologic Deficits and Cerebrospinal Fluid Lymphocytosis.
The syndrome of headache accompanied with transient neurologic deficits and cerebrospinal fluid lymphocytosis (HaNDL), is a rare, benign and self limiting syndrome. In the 2nd Edition of the International Classification of Headache Disorders, HaNDL syndrome was defined in secondary headache group as "Headache attributed to non-vascular intracranial disorder". The etiology of HaNDL is still unkn...
متن کاملGlobal hemispheric CT hypoperfusion may differentiate headache with associated neurological deficits and lymphocytosis from acute stroke.
Headache with associated neurological deficits and lymphocytosis (HaNDL) is characterized by temporary recurrent neurological deficits, moderate–severe headache, cerebrospinal fluid lymphocytosis, elevated protein, and increased opening pressure.1 Although CT and MRI should be normal, single photon emission CT may indicate focal hypoperfusion and electroencephalogram may reveal slowing or even ...
متن کاملSymptomatic intracranial hypertension during recovery from the syndrome of headache with neurologic deficits and cerebrospinal fluid lymphocytosis (HANDL).
The syndrome of headache with neurologic deficits and cerebrospinal fluid lymphocytosis (HANDL) is rare; it comprises migrainous headaches (generally in headache-naïve people), fluctuating neurological symptoms and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) lymphocytosis. The syndrome generally runs a benign, self-limiting course over weeks. A small proportion of patients develop intracranial hypertension as a ...
متن کاملclinical and immunological relevance of anti-neuronal antibodies in celiac disease with neurological manifestations
abstract aim: to assess anti-neuronal antibodies (na) prevalence and their correlation with neurological disorders and bowel habits in celiac disease (cd) patients. background: neurological manifestations are estimated to occur in about 10% of celiac disease patients and na to central nervous system (cns) and enteric nervous system (ens) are found in a significant proportion of them. little is ...
